A word of Thanks- Nov. 24th 2007

We attended a Thanksgiving feast last night; put on by an American with the support his British flat-mates. It was on Friday rather than actual thanksgiving, which we all supported, b/c if you’re gonna throw a party, it might as well be on a Friday night! WOO! The venue was student housing, so not tiny, but not huge, particularly the kitchen. There were about 30 of us in attendance. We were told to bring no food, only wine. All of the guests showed true form, and the wine was flowing like monkeys at a banana sale. Eventually we all sat down to one very long, very meandering table and enjoyed all the goods. There was turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy (which was served in a large plastic Coke pitcher) yams, and sausages (a little bit of Britain). It was splendid. We were overwhelmed with Brits asking us about different traditions, and if this was authentic to a true American Thanksgiving. After dessert, once the turkey lull kicked in, we proclaimed it true to form, and everyone was happy. Thankfully the wine kicked back in, and we cut a rug to Elvis, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and yes…….JOURNEY!!!

As we enjoyed our first Thanksgiving abroad, we couldn’t help but get a little sappy and feel an overwhelming feeling of thankfulness for all our friends and family back home! We are grateful for the support and love you give us. Heck, we’re just grateful you all take the time to read this thing every once in a while. Moving abroad has helped us realize how blessed we are with great friends, great family, and great community! We have MUCH love for you all (unless you’re a creepy stranger who just reads random blog sites). So, in the original spirit of the holiday, we thank God for you all! Cheers!
